You know about Fortnite, right? Of course you do.
Who doesn't know about Fortnite at this point? If they don't, they were probably living under a rock for all these years and disconnected from society.
The popular battle royale took over the gaming world by storm in 2017 and it has become a cultural phenemomen with millions of active players that still continue to play the game.
I am one of them and my Fortnite journey started in 2021. ( Yes, I know it's a bit late. )
Gaming has always been an integral part of my life. I grew up playing many games and owning several systems, including the N64 and the original PlayStation 1. Decades later, I now own a PlayStation 5.
I have always been amazing at playing games and I had a talent for it. My time was mostly spent playing single-player games. That will always be the core video-game experience in my eyes.
There's nothing like an amazing single-player experience with a story, unique mechanics and an objective with different levels to progress through.
I grew up falling in love with single-player games like Metal Gear Solid that was well-known for having an amazing narrative and delivering movie like experiences in a video game.
Around the early 2000's is when I started playing games that had a multiplayer mode. Games like Counter Strike and Halo : Combat Evolved.
I think it was in 2005 when my dad decided to get us a broadband internet connection. Until then, we had been using dial-up and we were mostly surfing the web.
Oh boy! I was experiencing super-fast internet for the first time and that opened the door for new possibilities, especially for gaming in my case.
It allowed me to experience the joy of multiplayer games and I got to experience the thrill of testing my gaming skills against another player.
I spent a lot of time on Halo and Blood Gulch is still one of my favourite maps to date. I also developed my skills in Counter Strike and had an amazing time. I'm starting to get a bit nostalgic here. That was such a fun era for gaming as a whole.
But as time passed, and after I went to college, I stopped playing a lot of multiplayer games. I was still an avid gamer, but I was mostly focused on the single-player experiences.
It took a few years to truly get back into online gaming. I just didn't have the interest back then.
I heard about Fortnite Battle Royale back in 2017 and the hype surrounding it, but I didn't bother to try it out.
Fast forward to December 2021, and I decided to play Fortnite for the first time. I was coarsed by a few of my friends to download the game and give it a shot.
Fortnite is not just any Battle Royale. It has a lore, chapters and seasons. Each seasonal change brings about minor changes to the map along with new weapons and items, while a new chapter typically brings in a completely different map along with drastic changes to gameplay and other features.
Chapter 3 : Season 1 of Fortnite is when I officially started my journey.
A few hours prior to that, I was spectating my friend's gameplay through the PS 'share screen' feature and I was watching him play the end of chapter live event for Chapter 2 : Season 8.
